He was predeceased by: his parents, Floyd Payne and Della Kneale Payne; his wife Susan Merideth; his son Larry M. Payne; his grandson Jeff Coovert; his siblings, Patsy Bell and Ron Payne; his niece Kayle Payne; his nephew R. J. Payne; his father-in-law Marty Merideth; and his brother-in-law Jim Merideth.
He is survived by: his former wife Becky Thompson; his son Sam Payne (Kris) of Keokuk; his grandchildren, Gabe Payne (Lauren) of Moore, OK, Nicholas Payne of Keokuk and Carrie Payne of Hamilton, IL; his siblings, Bob Payne (Mary), Gary Payne (Trish) of Keokuk, Peggy Skinner of Keokuk and Vicki Pezley (Denis) of Palmyra, MO; his sister-in-law Suzan Payne of Keokuk; and his half-siblings, David Payne, Melody Krone and Lisa Demond. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
