He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer Schaefer and Gertrude Schaefer (Stille); and his siblings, Velda Blank and Melvin Schaefer. He is survived by: his wife Darlene Webb; his children, Aimee Luick (Marlo), Paul Schaefer (Nyla), Kelly Schaefer (Sue), Scott Schaefer, Mick Shipler, Sue Schaefer (Shipler), Rob Shipler (Malia), Angie Ross (Clint), Traci Myers, Todd Shipler (DeAnn) and Leslie Towell; and his pet Dufes. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren.
