He was predeceased by: his parents, Chris Schmitt and Agnes Schmitt (Blong); his son Chris; his wife Nell; his granddaughter Carli Blanco; and his brothers, Theodore, Linus, Richard and Reverend Donald Schmitt.
He is survived by: his children, Warren (Sarah) of Dakota Dunes, SD, Jason (Mary Jo) of Ames, IA., Felicia Miedema (Allen) of Urbandale, Iowa, Sharon Cloud (Dan) of Glenview, IL and Sheila Blanco (David) of Chicago, IL; his sisters, Gladys Oppold (Joe) and Sylvia Barloon (George); his grandchildren, Brent, Darrin (McKenna), David, Hannah Miedema, Gryffon, Becky Cloud, Abigail, Luke Schmitt, Katie Blanco, Wyatt Schmitt (Rachel), Grace and Emma Schmitt; and his great grandchildren, Jackson, Eleanor and Ruby Miedema.
Prior to Covid, Earl was active at the Johnston, Iowa Senior Center where he was a two-time champion of Tournament Wii Bowling.
