He was predeceased by: his siblings, Ervin "Sonny", Loren, Herbert Petersen and Jean Maholovich; his son John Henry Petersen; and his daughter-in-law Karen Petersen.
He is survived by: his sister Evelyn Garness; his children, Patricia Van Zante (Arvin), Michael and David Petersen; and his grandchildren, Libby Kyte (Jason), Tiffani Ferin (Tony), Peter Van Dahlgren (Elle), Jeff Petersen, Carey Anderson (Jon), Matt Petersen and Sarah Viet (Nick). He is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
