He is survived by: his children, Rodney Schares (Lynn) of Jesup, Rhonda Cole (Rob), Randy Schares (Bobbie), Robin Schares (Rick Mount) of Waterloo, Rusty Schares and Renee Schares (Dave); and his siblings, Edward Schares of Waterloo, LeRoy Schares (Cheryl) of Independence, Helene Weber of Independence, Gladys Newton (Paul) of Las Vegas, NV, Barb Mayer of Gilbertville and Anna Fettkether (Keith). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
