He was predeceased by: his parents, Karl Rietz and Margaret Rietz (Brandon); his granddaughter Margaret Grace "Molly" Rietz; and his brother-in-law Ted Jorgenson. He is survived by: his wife Joan L. Aldrich; his children, Thomas Rietz (Karen) and Sarah Aldrich-Rietz; his granddaughters, Leah Rietz of Iowa City and Linnea Rietz of Iowa City; his sister Carmen Jorgenson of Fremont, California; and his nephews, Chad Jorgenson (Angie) of Antioch and Doug Jorgenson of Fremont, California..

Visitation was held on Wednesday, January 1st 2025 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and on Thursday, January 2nd 2025 at 9:30 AM at the Ewing Funeral Home (111 Luick's Ln S, Belmond, IA 50421). A funeral service was held on Thursday, January 2nd 2025 at 10:30 AM at the United Church of Rowan (811 Pesch St, Rowan, IA 50470).
