He is survived by: his wife Dearetta Johnson of Ionia; his children, Christina Patton (Robert) of Ames, Iowa and Rick Johnson (Linda) of Littleton, Colorado; his stepgrandchildren, Jodi Holschlag (Dave) and Dan Patton; and his sisters, Patty Shatzberg (Gary) of Cedar Falls, Karen Boelman (Doug) of Cedar Falls and Ona Mae Brandt of Waverly, Iowa.. He is also survived by seven step-great-grandchildren.
