She was predeceased by: her parents, Arthur Clement Lappe and Mildred Marie Lappe (Murphy); her husband Roger William Greathouse of John's Catholic Church; her son Patrick; and her brothers, Paul Lappe, William Lappe and Richard Lappe.
She is survived by: her grandchildren, Allison Greathouse, Emily Greathouse, Nicholas Olney (Kayla), Rachel Olney, Joshua Olney, Wyatt Olney, Cassandra Schindler-Toniolo (Sara), Tim Slade, Nathan Slade, Alivia Slade and Tasha Slade; her great grandchild Laramie Olney; her siblings, Leroy Lappe (Roselyn) of Independence, IA, Jim Lappe of Wellsburg, IA, John Lappe of Brandon, IA, Rosalind Gibbs of Independence, IA, Katherine Brenneman (Larry) of Riverside, IA and Rita Ridler (Brian) of Woodward, IA; her sisters-in-law, Margorie Lappe of Independence, IA, Mary Lappe of Colona, IL and Christine Lappe of Waterloo, IA.; and her friend Mary.
Memorials will be directed to the church and a scholarship that has been established at Kirkwood Community College in memory of Mary Ellen, to support future educators.
