He was predeceased by: his parents, Nicholas Gaul and Antonette Gaul (Haupert); and his siblings, Shirley Henshaw, Delores Penning, Audrey Hibbing, Helen Fischer, Donald and Jim Gaul.

He is survived by: his wife Nancy Gaul of Independence, IA; his children, Alan Gaul (Valerie) of Debary, FL, Carolyn Hosch (Mike) of Rowley, IA, Beth Flaucher (Marty) of Independence, IA and Dennis Gaul (Sherry) of Aplington, IA; his grandchildren, Chris Gaul, Ben Gaul, Brad Flaucher (Stephanie), Ryan Flaucher (Ashley), Catie Vander Molen (Blake), Brian Gaul, Nick Gaul and Sarah Gaul; his great grandchildren, Vivian Flaucher and Sofia Vander Molen; and his brother Joe Gaul of Gladstone, MO. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
