He was predeceased by: his parents, Jack Sommerfeld and Lois Sommerfeld (Wollesen); and his stepfather Paul Ziegmann. He is survived by: his former wife Kathie Jo Fertig; his son Todd Sommerfeld (Amber) of Ankeny; his grandchildren, Megan, Carson and Tristan; his daughter Tami Strong (Lucian) of Arvada; his grandsons, Devin, Tyler and Luke; his stepchildren, Tanner Frangenberg (Madeline) of Gilbert, Arizona and Bo Frangenberg of Slater, Iowa; his brother Marc Sommerfeld (Linda) of Remsen, Iowa; his half-brother Neil Ziegmann (Becky Ihou) of Lake View, Iowa; his cousin Fred Sommerfeld (Rita) of Dubuque, Iowa; his nephew Jeff Ziegmann of Kiron, Iowa; and his niece Christina Duncan of Carroll, Iowa. He is also survived by other cousins, great nieces and nephews.
