He was predeceased by: his parents, Gerrit Scholten and Clara Scholten (Van Zandbergen); his wife Colleen Rae Mulder; his son Steven Scholten; his siblings, Clifford Scholten and Beverly Waitt; and his parents-in-law, Dick and Harriet Mulder (Schutt).

He is survived by: his daughter Nancy Speer (Stan) of Sioux Center; his daughter-in-law Nancy Scholten of Alton; his grandson Scott Speer (Lindsay); his great grandchildren, Ava, Lydia and Jake of Sioux Falls, SD; his grandchild TJ Speer (Lisa); his great grandchildren, Adalyn and Stella of Sioux Center; his granddaughter Nicole Bylsma (Jason DeJong); his great grandchildren, Caleb, Bella and Kinley of Orange City; his grandchild Allison Gollhofer (Dustin); his great grandchildren, Serena, Scarlett and Zeke of Hospers; his brother Jerry Scholten (Audrey) of Le Mars; and his siblings-in-law, Anne Scholten of Des Moines, G. Waitt of New Bury Park, CA and David Mulder (Dorthy "Dot") of Sioux Center. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
