He was predeceased by: his parents, Wybren Koolstra and Martje Koolstra (De Vries); his brother Willem Koolstra; and his brother-in-law Wim Duister. He is survived by: his wife Lois of Hull; his sons, John Koolstra (Vivian) of Pella, Gerald Koolstra (Lisa) of Dakota Dunes, Bill Koolstra of Sioux Falls, Daniel Koolstra (Heather) of Hull and Darron Koolstra of Sioux City; his grandchildren, Leah (Jacob Hoffner), Tanner Koolstra, Karen (Ethan Javers), Brandon Koolstra (Kelsey), Lucas Koolstra, Sydney Koolstra, Chaelor (Taylor Miedema), Hunter Koolstra, Taylor Koolstra and Riley Koolstra; his great grandchildren, Freya, Fern Hoffner, Ellie, Violet Javers and Otto Koolstra; and his sisters, Griet Duister and Baukje (Henny Zwart). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
