He was predeceased by: his parents, Bertel Nielsen and Martha Nielsen (Juhl); his son-in-law LeRoy Rath; his great grandchild Logue De Groot; and his siblings, Helen Eckstein, Lillian (Wendell Toenjes), Harold Nielsen (Florence) and Edwin Nielsen.
He is survived by: his family Owen; his wife Pearl Sohl (Van Veldhuizen) of Rock Rapids; his children, Charlotte Rath of Rock Rapids, Kenneth Nielsen (Nancy) of Hull, Martha (Larry De Jong) of Hull, Lisa (Kevin Welch) of Sheldon, Diane Hofer of Sheldon and Martin Nielsen (Sandy) of Hull; his stepchildren, Luella (Jeff Techen) and Glen Sohl (Tracy); and his sister-in-law JoAnn Zorn of Eagan, Minnesota.. He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren.
