He was predeceased by: his children, Shirley and Melanee; his parents, Morris Hovland and Edna Hovland-Bruvold; his stepfather Orlando Bruvold; his son-in-law Ken Carlson; his siblings-in-law, Eugene Smith, Jessie Frederikson and Ann Schlenker; and his nephew Steven Smith.
He is survived by: his son Brent; his wife Shirley; his grandchildren, Jeff Stanley, Kirsten, Joseph, James Stanley, Ameerah, Aksel Hunter, Heather Weaver (John), Jessica McEwen (Reed) and Brian Hovland; his stepsister Bonnie Snoke (Bill); his siblings-in-law, Guy Smith (Jeanette), Dave Schlenker and Barbara Smith (Eugene); his niece Kathleen; his nephew Curtis Johnson; and also, Steven and Kathleen Smith. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
