He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Schmitt and Frances Schmitt (Diesburg); his parents-in-law, Valeria Lahey, Francis and Madeline; his daughter Connie; and his brother Ray.
He is survived by: his wife Darlene; his children, Tom Schmitt (Susie), Jack Schmitt (Elaine), Steve Schmitt (Barb) and Peggy Schmitt; his grandchildren, Tracy Rubner (Josh), Joseph, Emily, Hannah Schmitt, Joshua, Jacob, Kelsey Schmitt and Will Harmeyer; and his great grandchildren, Savannah, Alyvia and Devon Rubner.
