He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Schmidt, (Boysen) and Alfred Schmidt, Sr.; his siblings, Alfred "Bud" Schmidt, Jr. (Vernette), DeWayne Schmidt, Earl Dean Schmidt (Ruth), Arlene Babcock (Lloyd) and Roger Schmidt (Carol); his in-laws, William and Alma Prosch; and his brothers-in-law, Dale Prosch (Creta) and Donald Prosch.
He is survived by: his wife Darlene Schmidt of Holstein, IA; his children, Doug Schmidt (Julie) of Denison, IA, Dana Apel (Kevin) of New Braunfels, TX and Dawn Schmidt of Rapid City, SD; his grandchildren, Calisa Stark (Sam) of Universal City, TX, Ashton Schmidt of Los Angeles, CA, Cara Wozniak (Austin) of Needville, TX and Kylie Nelson (Ryan) of Indianola, IA; his child Michala Covington (Tyler) of San Marcos, TX; and his great grandchildren, Piper, Devin Stark, Carter, Cooper Wozniak, Cecil and Juniper Nelson. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family.
