He was predeceased by: his wife Iona; his parents, Alexander Diederich and Ann Diederich (Jacobs); and his siblings, Ellen Huegel, Ruth Weiglen, Rosemary Reuter, Betty Basche, Peter and Paul Diederich.
He is survived by: his children, Jayne Griffin of Cedar Rapids, Chris (Julie) of Jacksonville, FL, Barry of Daly City, CA and Andy (Kayleen) of Hiawatha, IA; his grandchildren, Brad, Jill, Elizabeth, Scott, Christine, Ian and Maren; and his great grandchildren, Maddie, Macs and Brantley.
Memorials may be directed to the Hospice House in Alex's name.
