He was predeceased by: his parents, Ward Thompson and Grace Thompson (Fricke); his sisters, Jan Thompson and Judy Dorste; and his son-in-law Randy Bendig.

He is survived by: his wife Lou Anne of Henderson, IA; his children, Michael Thompson (Susie) of Fremont, NE, Tammy Bendig of Fremont, NE, Brad Thompson (Kari) of Fremont, NE, Matt Thompson (Shelby) of Bennington, NE, Crystal Albrecht of Carter Lake, IA, Russel Porter (Lynne) of Malvern, IA, Bonny Triplett (Mark) of Glenwood, IA, Jennifer Walters (Andrew) of Omaha, NE and Mikaila Wise of Ft. Dodge, IA; his brother Bob Thompson (Pat) of Papillion, NE; and his brother-in-law Kent Dorste of Auburn, NE. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
