He was predeceased by: his parents-in-law, Dennis Moore and Ellie Moore; his siblings-in-law, Margy Burkey, Kathy Burkey, Lori Schmitt, Robbie Casey, Paul Schmitt and Rick Lenth; his niece Gina Prevenas; and his friend Doug Pagel.
He is survived by: his parent Marvin Keith; his wife Teri Burkey of Hawkeye; his children, Stephanie Burkey of Waverly and Michael Burkey of Hawkeye; his mother Janet Leverington (Ed Lundahl) of Independence; his siblings, Doug Burkey of Oelwein and Beth Behrend (Lyle) of Luana; his stepbrothers, Richard Leverington (Marlene) of Texas and Delbert Leverington, Jr. (Claire) of Cedar Rapids; and his siblings-in-law, Cheryl Moore of Oelwein and Randy Moore (Julie) of Westgate. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
