She was predeceased by: her parents, Henry Brands and Jennie Brands (Brouwer); her husband Marion Byker; her siblings, Gerrit, Jasper Brands, Rena In't Veld, Jennie Dragstra, Marian Mae Wallenburg, Dorothy Voortman and Arlene Bakker; and her granddaughter Sarah Jelgerhuis.
She is survived by: her children, Eugene (Cheryl) of Ireton, Shar (Elmer Jelgerhuis) of Bloomington, Shirley (Rudy Folkerts) of Orange City, Daryl Byker of Hawarden and Mike (Maria) of Orange City, Iowa; her grandchildren, Leah Zarate-Byker, Rachel Dekker, Laura Jelgerhuis, Wade Folkerts, Meika Folkerts, Klay Byker, Sam Byker and Emma Byker; her great grandchildren, Thea, Henry Dekker, Kaden and Ada Byker; and her siblings, Gertrude Kruid of Orange City, Carol Joyce Bouwman (William) of Rock Valley, Iowa and Gerald Brands (Lavina) of Inwood, Iowa..
Visitation was held on Monday, December 9th 2024 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the Ireton Christian Reformed Church (301 Maple St, Ireton, IA 51027). A funeral service was held on Monday, December 9th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
Nelma's family prefers memorials be given to Unity Christian High School in Orange City.
