He was predeceased by: his wife Dorothy; his son Kenneth Lynn; his brothers, Everett and Jacob; and his in-laws, Jacoba Hulshof, Mary Ann Hulshof, Peter, Priscilla Lockhorst, Darold, Adrianna Bultman, Les Webert, Fred, Jeanette Boogerd, Grace Oldenkamp, Paul and Geri Lockhorst.
He is survived by: his children, Glenda and Randy Van Wyhe of Ireton; his grandchildren, Austin of Superior, Aaron (Chantelle), Aynsley, Baylor of Rock Valley, Iowa, Dennis and Mindi Hulshof of Ireton; his great grandchildren, Molly and Kenneth; his grandchildren, Lyle and Stephanie Hulshof of Ireton; his great grandchildren, Mitchell and Zachary (Lisbet); his granddaughter Emily; and his in-laws, Don, Deanna Lockhorst of Ireton, Garold, Christina Cleveringa of Sioux Center and Herman Oldenkamp of Orange City. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Melvin's family prefers memorials to be directed to Hope Haven in Rock Valley, Iowa or to the Hawarden Regional Healthcare Foundation in Hawarden, Iowa.
