He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Gustav and Carrie Louise Kahl (Roenfeld). He is survived by: his wife Lesta Kahl of Hastings, Iowa; his children, LuAnn Kahl of Malvern, Iowa, Stephen Kahl (Monica) of Malvern, Iowa and Connie Butterworth of Bellevue, Nebraska; his grandchildren, Timothy Kahl, Rebecca Goodman and Valesca Gaylord-DeRosa; and his sister-in-law Frieda Kahl of Crescent, Iowa. He is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter.
