She was predeceased by: her parents, Dick DeRuyter and Lena DeRuyter (Kooistra); her husband Dick Van Engen; her siblings, John DeRuyter, Mary Gunnick, Rich DeRuyter, Spark DeRuyter, Nellie Schoonhoven and Gerrit DeRuyter; her siblings-in-law, Margaret DeRuyter, Pete Gunnick, Eleanor DeRuyter and John Schoonhoven; and her daughter-in-law Luisa Hornick.
She is survived by: her sons, Doug Van Engen (Brenda) of Branson, Cliff Van Engen (Marlys) of Hartley, Darrel Van Engen of Primghar, Myron Van Engen (Connie) of Melvin and Curt Van Engen (Donna) of Hartley, Iowa; her sisters, Mina Poppens (Ed) and Carol Hill (Rich); and her sisters-in-law, Shirley DeRuyter, Linda Wissink and Fran DeRuyter. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren.
