He was predeceased by: his parents, Geraldine Messenger (Smith) and Clarence Messenger; his wife Velma (Lee); his daughter Kathren Messenger; his grandson Aaron Messenger; his siblings, Clarence Messenger, Betty Denniston and Robert Messenger; and his in-laws, Alvin Lee (Anna Mae) and Marilyn Lee.
He is survived by: his children, Dennis Messenger (Jeri) and Judy Pixley (John) of Honey Creek, IA; his grandchildren, Holly Messenger (Eric Woodard), Jared Pixley (Erin) of Tucson, AZ and Joel Pixley of Council Bluffs, IA; his great grandchildren, Kiran Valji and Arthur Pixley of Tucson, AZ; his stepsiblings, Mary Lamb of Osawatomie, KS and Ray Brown of Lawrence, KS; and his brother-in-law John Lee (Sherrie) of Avoca, IA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 11th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Luncheon and Fellowship Altamont Baptist Church (516 Quince Rd, Harlan, IA 51537).
