He is survived by: his wife Joan Sue Alff of Griswold, IA; his children, Kim Kirchhoff (Danny) and Douglas Bates; his grandchildren, Ryan Kirchhoff (Erika), Mindy Bullington (Aric), Dillon Bates (Adela Jelacic) and Devin Bates; his great grandchildren, Tyrel Peters (Kyra), Mateya Baca (Taylor), R'Nya Kirchhoff, Eastyn Kirchhoff, Kai Bullington, Ace Bullington, Cru Bullington, Benji Hodzic and Adin Hodzic; his great great grandchild Baby Baca; and his brother Gary Bates (Vickie). He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, November 6th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the United Congregational Methodist Church (401 1st St, Lewis, IA 51544). A funeral service was held on Thursday, November 7th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial was held on Thursday, November 7th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Whipple Cemetery (51733 Hackberry Rd, Griswold, IA 51535).
