She was predeceased by: her husband Robert Milo Samson; her parents, George Leonard Carlson and Mary Catherine French Carlson; and her siblings, Marjorie Jean Carlson Buckley and George Robert Carlson.
She is survived by: her children, Christopher Robert (Lisa) of Urbandale, Douglas Scott of Durham and Suellen Mary of Indianapolis; her brother David Albert Carlson; her child Tracy Boddicker (Kevin Funkhouser) of Berryville, Virginia; her grandchildren, Erin Ramsey (Phillip), Megan Samson, Lauren Onken (Nick), Kaylin Hokanson-Fasig (Ben), Miles Hokanson, Adam Boddicker (Kelly), Austin Boddicker (Pam Pelto) and Annie Boddicker; and her great grandchildren, Larae, Beckham, Oakley Ramsey, Lillian, Addison, Oliver Boddicker and Ada Onken.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in memory of Ruth be directed to St. Francis Manor Foundation or MICA-Grinnell to fight food hunger.
