He was predeceased by: his parents, Allen Frank and Velma Margaret Bauman Kies; and his brothers, Wayne, Jim, Robert and David.

He is survived by: his wife Beverly of Grinnell; his children, Susan (Mark) and Doug Kies (Desia) of Grinnell; his grandchildren, Taylor Gant (Jessica) of Olympia, Amber Gant of Kellogg, Dalton and Kiana Kies of Grinnell; his great grandchild Gryphon Gant; and his stepgreat-grandchildren, Fenix and Abby.

Memorial contributions may be designated to Grinnell Regional Hospice, Malcom American Legion or the Malcom United Methodist Church.
