She was predeceased by: her parents, William Ashford and Marie Ashford (Molitor). She is survived by: her cousins, Mike Thorndike (Susan) of Grinnell and Tom Kuhlman (Mary Lou) of Omaha, Nebraska; her goddaughter Christine Dumuch (Matt) of Chicago, Illinois; and her friend Connie Kammandel of Omaha.

Maggie was an active volunteer of the Poweshiek County Democratic Party and the Break Thru Foundation, which cares for at-risk youth in San Francisco, California.

“Oh, I am heartbroken. I went to Priory H.S. with Maggie before she went to Chicago's Barat College. An early bird in technology, she brought that made-for-theater voice to marketing software systems and training, and traveled widely. I was delighted to visit her when she lived in the Marina in San Francisco and then again years later in her Grinnell apartment, No matter the setting, she brought her pragmatic, optimistic attitude and laughter. We hoped she'd see the first woman President.”
