He was predeceased by: his parents, Lambertus E. "Bert" and Nellie DeJong Blom; his wife Janice Lee Fynaardt; his son-in-law Lane Kephart; his grandson Riley Ely; and his siblings, Robert Blom, Dale Blom, Leona Price (Charles) and Marjorie Fairson.

He is survived by: his children, Greg Blom (Jean Lewis) of Grinnell, Phyllis Kephart of New Sharon, Lisa Ellenson (Ken) of Amana, Warren Blom of Grinnell and Dee Dee Ely (Laurel) of Kellogg; his grandchildren, Jeremy Blom (Desiree), Nicole Rea (Zach), Amber Wires (Joel), Noah Kephart (Nikki), Aaron Kephart, Rachel Schopf (Nate), Lindsey Schrader (Shane), Matthew Ellenson, Jordan Ely (Hope) and Evan Ely; his siblings, Donald Blom (Donna) of Ripon, Ruth Van Maanen (LeRoy) of Lynnville, Iowa, Florence Blom, Ruth Blom, Betty Augustine, Joyce Jochems (Harry) and Nancy Roose; and his brother-in-law Robert Fairson. He is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren.
