He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald "Bus" and Lorraine Scherdin Matthews; his son Todd Matthews; his daughter-in-law Darla Matthews; and his sister Shirley Matthews.
He is survived by: his wife Patricia Joan Rasmussen of Grinnell; his children, Steve Matthews of Omaha and Jana Byers (Payton) of Kellogg; and his grandchildren, Eric Matthews of Denver, Samantha Price (Don) of Omaha, Troy Matthews (Audrey) of St. Louis, Lexie Henderson (Andy) of Grinnell, Cody Byers (Melissa) of Holiday Lake, Kylie Vu (Nathan) of Ankeny, Kasey Bennett (John) of Omaha and Koy Matthews of Omaha. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.
