He was predeceased by: his parents, Thurman Burkett and Bessie McGinty Burkett; his son Chad Burkett; and his siblings, Doyle, Vance, Dwight Burkett and Jennie Reed.
He is survived by: his children, Allan Burkett (Teri) of Newton, Deanna Burkett of Independence, Stephanie Chiarito (Tom) of Plainfield and Shane Burkett of Coralville; and his siblings, Shelby Burkett of Grinnell, Geraldine Sanders of Grinnell, Matti Duncan of Grinnell and Glenda Heaslet of Conway, Arkansas. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
