He was predeceased by: his parents, John Heffernan and Bernice Heffernan (DeRoin); and his sister Barbara Peterson. He is survived by: his wife Karen Heffernan (Hof); his children, Kimberly Heffernan of Des Moines, IA and Michael J. Heffernan (Tiffany) of Austin, TX; his grandchildren, Taylor Heffernan and Mackenzie Heffernan; his brother Joseph Heffernan; his nephews, Dr. Eric Peterson (Sara) of Sioux Falls, SD and Andrew Peterson of Sioux City, IA; and his niece Dr. Katie Bensen (Eldon).
