He was predeceased by: his brother Darwin; and his sister-in-law Bev Buch. He is survived by: his wife Donna Lee; his sisters, Marianne Fann (Allen) of Des Moines and Nadine Lillie (Jim) of Peoria, Illinois; his children, Tom (Margaret Maloy) of Denver, Cindy (Andy Kail) of Booneville and Judi (Jim Coppock) of Des Moines; his grandchildren, Jeremy Buch (Teresa) of Louisville, Colorado, Melissa Etten (Jason) of Urbandale, Brett Kail (Jeff Sorenson) of Ames, Sara Homrig (Joe Baynes) of Grand Forks and Amber Kail (Michelle Schaper) of Waukee; his stepgrandchildren, Jeff, Tim (Janet), Kelsi and Darren Coppock; and his great grandchildren, Joanna, Stephen, Christopher, Emily Buch, Alexander, Brodie Jamison, Tyler Etten and Dylan Coppock.
In later years, he donated a large portion of his sports card collection to the Boys and Girls Club of Des Moines and Kingdom Hoops Basketball Club.
