He is survived by: his former wife Deborah Kay Leighton; his wife Debbie Bates of Greenfield; his son Darrell Bates (Paula) of Fontanelle; his stepchildren, Peter Davidson (Tiffany) of Creston, Lesa Davidson of Creston and Amy Graham of Des Moines, Iowa; and his grandchildren, Briley Bates and Jeremy Freeman. He is also survived by 10 step-grandchildren; 24 step-great-grandchildren; 3 nieces, other relatives and many friends.
