He was predeceased by: his parents, Anton Brunkan and Mary Heiring Brunkan; his siblings, James Brunkan (Bernice), Jeanne Schmaltz and Stella Hogan (Patrick); and his sister-in-law Fran Brunkan.
He is survived by: his brothers, Robert Brunkan of Dyersville, David Brunkan (Marian) of Dyersville and Richard Brunkan (Collete) of Elm Grove, WI; and his brother-in-law Richard Schmaltz (Dorothy) of Dubuque. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
