She was predeceased by: her parents, Bruce Vosburg and Rosalia Vosburg (Graff); her former husband Edwin Michael Penning; her siblings, Ted Vosburg and Marquerite Canale; her brothers-in-law, Bob Canale and Bill Hindman; her daughter Deborah Frederes; her son-in-law Ron Ludwig; and her granddaughter Deborah Penning.
She is survived by: her husband Wallace Shafer; her children, Bruce Penning (Bev) of Robins, Denise Ellis (Bob) of County Cork, Ireland, Blanche Ludwig of New Virginia, Ted Penning (Amanda) of Alton, Gene Penning of Denver, David Penning (Tonya) of Alpine, Janelle Hibbing (David) of Paullina and Kevin Shafer (Nancy); and her sister Paula Hindman of Salem.
