He was predeceased by: his parents, James Cairns and Mary Cairns; and his wife Nancy. He is survived by: his children, Pam Cairns and Mark Cairns (Teresa); his grandchildren, Jason and Alicia Cairns; his great grandchildren, Carter, Derrick, Kenzie, Brayden, Ashlyn and Bryce; his brother Jerry Sharp (Judy); and his pet Hanna.
