He was predeceased by: his parents, David Houtz and Anna Mae Houtz; his son Steven Houtz; and his siblings, Janice McCartor and Denis Houtz (Buzz).

He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Bell Mellinger of Grandview; his daughters, Karen Morgan (Bruce) of Washington, Janet Yakle (Jerry) of Wapello, Diane Schriener (Kurt) of Davenport and Trish Elser of Naples, Florida; his grandchildren, Chad Morgan, Patrick Morgan (Jennifer), Doug Yakle, Jason Yakle (Tessa), Zachary Schriener, Thomas Schriener and Kirsten Verlato (Dane); and his brother Robert Houtz. He is also survived by Eight great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.
