He was predeceased by: his parents, William Herke and Kathryn Herke (Lammers); his wife Joan Schnell; his daughter Connie Herke; and his sisters, Arlene Henkelvig, Alice Kathman, Esther Anderson and Wilma Refsell.
He is survived by: his children, Scott Herke of Graettinger, Mick Herke (Jan) of Ankeny and Kurt Herke (Steve Kampa) of St. Paul, Minnesota; his grandchildren, Marshall Whitney, Morgan Whitney, Jack Herke-Dennert, Eric Herke and Aether Herke; and his brother Richard Herke. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Visitation was held on Sunday, February 16th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Bethel Lutheran Church (401 W Patterson St, Graettinger, IA 51342). A funeral service was held on Sunday, February 16th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, Willard's family requests memorials to the Graettinger-Terril School Foundation or Pheasants Forever.
