He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred Petersen and Elnora Petersen (Johnson); his wife Joleen Thiel; his brother Dale; and his parents-in-law, Anastasia and Henry Thiel.
He is survived by: his children, Mary Herke (Doug) of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Barbara Graber (Tom) of Coppell, Texas, Lloyd Chris Petersen, Jr. (Michele) of McLean, Virginia, David Petersen (Carol) of Vienna, Virginia, Michael Petersen (Dina) of Richmond, Virginia, Jonathan Petersen of Graettinger and Anastasia Kvam (Eric) of Wildwood, Missouri; his sister Lois Graham; and his sister-in-law Pat Thiel.
Visitation was held on Thursday, February 13th 2025 from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (503 W Olive St, Graettinger, IA 51342). A vigil service was held on Thursday, February 13th 2025 at 7:30 PM at the same location. A funeral service was held on Friday, February 14th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be directed to the Graettinger-Terril School Foundation.
