He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell Smith and Verle Smith (Steven); his stepson Matthew Tindall; and also, Ernie and Mary Paulson.
He is survived by: his close friend Marsha Duhn of Emmetsburg, Iowa; his son BJay; his daughter-in-law Michelle Smith of Ringsted, Iowa; his grandsons, Garrett and Matthew Smith of Ringsted, Iowa; his stepson Nathan Tindall; and his grandchildren, Dennie, Val Paulson, Kiersten, Sam Polaschek, Rachel Duhn, Bryce and Brody Paulson. He is also survived by other relatives and countless friends.
