He was predeceased by: his parents, Adolph Spies and Genevieve Spies (Sands); his sister Maryanna; and his brother-in-law Chuck Sarazine. He is survived by: his wife Karen Haegele; his children, Lori Spies, Matt Spies (Marty), Molly Westergard (Brian), Nicole Henrickson (Travis) and Krista Fuller (Mike); his grandchildren, Sammy Burns (Jeff), Beau Craig, Sydney Kelly (Jeremy), Grant Westergard, Alec Henrickson, Whitney Westergard, Noah Henrickson, Jeanna Fuller, Emma Henrickson, Nataley Westergard, Madeline Fuller, Sam Henrickson and Abigail Fuller; his great grandchildren, Oliva Vine and Braxton Westergard; and his cousin John F. Spies. He is also survived by five nieces and a nephew.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be given to the Graettinger Fire Department.
