He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold W. Frakes and Gertrude Frakes (Nilles); his siblings, Richard, Larry Frakes and Dolores Drennan; and his brother-in-law Lowell R. Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Marjorie; his sons, James of Hawaii, Gary (Tracy) of Iowa City and Tom (Nancy) of Kearney, MO; his grandchildren, Thomas of Chicago, Jack of Kansas City, Breanne Fritcher (Justin) of Smithville, MO, Taylor, Katie and Carson of Kearney, MO; his sister Margaret Smith of Springfield, IL; and his sister-in-law Patricia Frakes Dawson of Virginia. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
