He was loved and cherished by many people including: his former wife Pamela Kay Crum; his sons, Matthew (Laura) and Daniel (Courtney Sargent) of Pacific Junction, Iowa; his parents, Merrill Sargent and Elva Sargent; his father-in-law Larry Crum; his wife Pam Sargent; his grandchildren, Kate of Glenwood, Iowa and Jack Sargent of Glenwood, Iowa; his brother Dale (Pam E. Sargent); his mother-in-law Darlene Crum of Glenwood, Iowa; his brother-in-law Craig (Paula Crum) of Charles City, Iowa; and his aunt Naomi Christensen of Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was also cherished by relatives and many friends.

Memorial donations may be directed to Grace United Methodist Church, Glenwood, Iowa.
