He was predeceased by: his parents, Philip Welter and Cecilia Schares Welter; his daughter-in-law Amy Welter; his siblings, Ralph Welter, Leo Welter, Bernice Schmitz (Bert), Irma Delagardelle and Jean Fischels; and his brothers-in-law, Kenny Schmitz, Frank Guild and Dick Fischels.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley Thome of Gilbertville; his sons, Eugene Welter (Sheila) of Gilbertville, Ronald Welter of Gilbertville, Robert Welter (Jammi) of Gilbertville, Todd Welter (Wendi) of Jesup and Kevin Welter (Dawn) of Gilbertville; his grandchildren, Taran Lindstrom (Jimmy), Clay Welter, Cole Welter (Nicole), Brandon Welter, Karli Welter, Kindra Welter, Dillon Welter, Joel Wright (Erin), Kelsey Hauck (Brandon) and Alex Russell (Michael); his sisters, Alma Schmitz of Denver, Margie Guild of Waterloo and Linda Hughes (Jim) of Independence; and his siblings-in-law, Leo Delagardelle of Gilbertville and Marie Jean Welter of Jesup. He is also survived by four step-great grandchildren.
