With profound sadness, we say goodbye to Phyllis A. Berns of Garnavillo, Iowa, whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. Phyllis left this world on November 2, 2024 at the age of 94, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. She was predeceased by: her parents, Gregor Junk and Marie Junk (Fassbinder); her husband Leon; and her children, DeAnne Thornton and John Berns.
She is survived by: her children, Julie Jordahl (Jon), Beth Young (Stephen), Charles Berns (Heidi), Barbara Berns (Joe Leone), Rita Koth (Chet), Tom Berns (June) and Nancy Neeley (Scott); and her son-in-law Michael Thornton. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Friday, November 8th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday, November 9th 2024 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. A funeral service was held on Saturday, November 9th 2024 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church (204 W Oak St, Garnavillo, IA 52049). A graveside service was held on Saturday, November 9th 2024 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the St. Joseph's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Croix Hospice or St. Joseph Catholic Church.
