He is survived by: his children, Bradley Mertens (Benita) of Walker, Terrence Mertens (Cindy Larson) of Nauvoo, Illoinois and Andrea Puck (Dan) of DeWitt, Iowa; his siblings, Ike Mertens of Waterloo, Johnne Mertens of Houghton, Iowa, Harriet Coster of Sacramento and Jeanne Kos (Gary) of Washington, Iowa; his grandchildren, Sydney Henderson (Brock), Alyssa Westphal (Caleb), Noah Mertens, Landon Mertens, Samantha Puck (Shae Caven), Carter Puck and Ashlyn Puck; and his great grandchildren, June Henderson, Naomi Westphal and Kayce Caven. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be held on Tuesday, February 25th 2025 at 3:30 PM at the Barr Memorial Chapel (1919 Ave F, Fort Madison, IA 52627). A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, February 26th 2025 at 10:30 AM and at 10:30 PM at the Sacred Heart Church (2204 Ave I, Fort Madison, IA 52627).
A memorial has been established for Holy Family Parish, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison.
