It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joan Ruth Northup of Fort Madison, Iowa, who passed away on January 2, 2025, at the age of 73, leaving to mourn family and friends. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Joan Ruth Northup to pay them a last tribute.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Thomas Vonderhaar and Betty Muntz Vonderhaar; her sister Ruth Eid; and her brothers-in-law, Jim Hoenig and Chuck Fuchs.

She is survived by: her husband Steve Northup of Ft. Madison; her daughters, Tessa Knudsen (J. P.), Crystal Harris (Jeremy) of Burlington and Dawn Hammel (Rob) of Hamilton, IL; and her sisters, Barb Fuchs (James Bendlage) of Cedar Rapids, Mary Hoenig of Ft. Madison and Elizabeth Hierstein (Carl) of Ft. Madison. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and one great grandson.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, January 7th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Sacred Heart Church (2600 Ave I, Fort Madison, IA 52627). A funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, January 7th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
