He was predeceased by: his parents, Daniel Groat and Mabel Groat (Rogness); his wife Joann Swanson; his great grandchild Kinnick; and his siblings, Doris and Freeman.
He is survived by: his children, Julie Tarbox (Robert), Mark Groat (Shelli) of Otho and Michael Groat of Fort Dodge; his grandchildren, Tony Tarbox, Todd Tarbox, Matthew Groat, Jody Henderson and Tiffany Groat; his stepgrandchildren, Shannon Crouse, Christina Crouse and Ryan Johnson; and his great grandchildren, Jacey and Levi. He is also survived by two nieces and one nephew and numerous cousins.
