He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer Benda and Luella Benda (Herold); his parents-in-law, Otto and Irene Klimesh (Prohaski); and his grandson Shawn Anderson.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Klimesh; his daughters, Joanie, Joan Benda of Luana, Janice Pape (Dan) of Luana, Julie Halweg (Randy) of Fort Atkinson, Joyce Benda of Cresco and Jennifer Frey (Billy) of Fort Atkinson; his grandchildren, Sheila Anderson of Luana, Zachary (Aubreanna McQuade) of Decorah and Desiree Benda of Cresco; his stepgrandchildren, Drew Pape (Taylor) of Clear Lake, Ren Pape (Alison Hallberg) of Monona, Jesse Halweg (Alyssa) of Decorah and Jenna Cole (Scott) of Ryan, IA.; his great grandchildren, Grayson, Vaida and Brantley Benda of Cresco; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Dutton, Essten Pape of Clear Lake, Ansley, Brexton, Coleston Pape of Clear Lake, Denver Pape of Monona, Brekin, Brinley and Braea Halweg of Decorah; his sister Leanne Goettelman (Dale) of Decorah; and his siblings-in-law, Tom Klimesh (Beth) of Spillville, Peter Klimesh (Theresa) of Calmar, Emily Kalwarowsky of Canada, Daniel Klimesh (Diane) of Ridgeway and Cathy Darrah (John) of Dubuque. He is also survived by grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and step great-grandchildren.
